Almost during the whole of the year the weather in Minorca is typically Mediterranean; with mild wet winters and dry warm summers. The best months to enjoy the finest climate are May, June and September, when the temperatures reach maximums ranging between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius.
The main climatological feature of the island is the north wind; the well known Tramontana, a harsh dry wind which can start blowing at any time of the year, although it is during the winter when the gusts can reach 130 kilometres an hour. These gusts have lead Minorca to be known as the "island of the wind". However, the Tramontana never blows with the same force. On the contrary, in summer it becomes a breeze highly appreciated by the island inhabitants as it cools the summer temperatures, reduces the humidity and gives way to days of clear atmosphere.
Regarding rain, the annual standard is 650mm., varying on the year and the area.
Autumn is normally the rainiest season, with approximately 13 days of rain during December. Another characteristic is the air's relative humidity, which can reach a monthly standard of 79% in winter causing the typical island dew known as "banyadura".
